An updated development agreement between the City of Mesa and Chicago Cubs, as well as a facilities use agreement and options agreement for construction of a new spring training facility are now available online at www.mesaaz.gov/bettermesa/cubs.aspx.
Development of a new spring training stadium, practice facilities and the “Wrigleyville West” retail and shopping component is governed through three separate agreements:
· Development Agreement: This is the master agreement delineating all aspects of the complex from design and construction to operating and funding.
· Facilities Use Agreement: This is the document by which Mesa will lease the spring training facilities to the Cubs. It describes the terms of the lease
· Options Agreement. This agreement stipulates the terms and conditions that will govern the retail/hospitality portion of the project.
Mesa City Council is expected to vote on the three agreements at its regularly scheduled Oct. 17 meeting.
In November 2010, Mesa voters authorized the City to proceed with the design and construction of a new spring training facility for the Chicago Cubs.
The existing Riverview Golf Course was selected as the site for the new complex. The project site is 96 acres and does not include Riverview Park or the existing softball complex.
