Mary Rodriguez is a frequent visitor of Mesa’s Express Library or “MEL.”

“My five year old and I love the Mesa Express Library,” MEL patron, Mary Rodriguez said.  “We were in and out almost every day this summer and participated in the Summer Reading Program. The library staff was always more than helpful to David and I.  I don’t just feel like a member but more like family.  Thanks MEL for being here for us.”

It’s been roughly a year and half since Mesa’s newest Library, MEL, opened up at Power Square Mall.

“Prior to MEL, our last library to open up was 24 years ago and that was Dobson Ranch Library,” Mesa Library Director, Heather Wolf said. “We are very pleased with the success of MEL and are planning for more Express Libraries in the future.”

The 3,430 square-foot library is fully stocked with 11,400 items that include popular fiction novels, DVDs and audio books.  There are 10 computers that can access the Internet, Library Catalog, and other databases such as Mitchell’s car repair, Ancestry.com, and all other databases available through the Library’s website: http://www.mesalibrary.org.

Joanne O’Malley a frequent visitor of MEL, enjoys the computer access.

“I personally like coming to the Mesa Express Library,” MEL patron, Joanne O’Malley said.  “I do many personal documents and compositions on their computers. I also appreciate the courtesy and knowledge of the people who work there. MEL has a great selection of videos and the location is convenient.”

Since opening in May of 2011, MEL’s circulation has been over 147,200 books and materials.

“We do have a lot of regulars that use MEL,” MEL Librarian, Lanty Snelson said. “I think MEL fits a certain niche in our community.  Often times, people just want to pop in and see what is new or return a book but don’t want to go all the way to the Red Mountain Branch.  MEL is here to help you get in, get out, and get on with your day.”

Mesa Express Library is located at Power Square Mall, 2055 S. Power Rd., Suite 1031.  It’s open on Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Friday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.  MEL is close on Sunday.
