District 1 Councilmember Dave Richins has been appointed to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Local Government Advisory Council (LGCA) and will serve a one-year term, running through November of 2013. The committee will be made up of approximately 30 elected officials who will meet several times a year around the country.
“The opportunity to represent the Southwest on this committee will help me illustrate the particular challenges of our arid region to Washington D.C.,” Councilmember Richins said. “I’m ready to work with the EPA to find a solution to our dust-related issues.”
Formed in 1993, the LGCA provides advice and recommendations to the EPA Administrator to assist in developing a stronger partnership with local governments and building state and local capacity to deliver environmental services and programs. The LGCA crafts its advice through the help of five workgroups and one subcommittee.
