District 5 Councilwoman Dina Higgins has been appointed as Vice Chair of the National League of Cities’ (NLC) Energy, Environment and Natural Resources (EENR) Committee for 2013. The appointment was announced by NLC President Marie Lopez Rogers, the mayor of Avondale, Arizona.
Higgins will be serving her fourth term on the EENR Committee, which is responsible for developing policy positions on issues involving air quality, water quality, energy, national wetlands, noise control, and solid and hazardous waste management. These positions are considered annually by NLC membership and incorporated into the National Municipal Policy. They also help guide NLC’s federal advocacy efforts.
“This leadership position will allow me to present Arizona’s cutting edge water management policies on a national level,” Councilwoman Higgins said. “Arizona has developed some of the most sustainable water practices in the entire country and I look forward to sharing these ideas with elected officials from across the United States.”
The National League of Cities is dedicated to helping city leaders build better communities. NLC is a resource and advocate for 19,000 cities, towns and villages, representing more than 218 million Americans.
