City of Mesa launches "Mesa Educates U" campaign and scholarships

The City of Mesa announced today a new campaign called “Mesa Educates U,” designed to raise the profile of Mesa as a premier destination for higher education. In making the announcement, City officials also highlighted a new scholarship program being offered by several of the new colleges offering courses this Fall.
The campaign is an initiative of Mesa Counts on College, a collaborative effort between the City, Mesa Public Schools and Mesa Community College whose goal is to improve college completion rates in the City.
Mesa’s established institutions: A.T. Still University, Chandler-Gilbert Community College and Mesa Community College are sponsoring the campaign in partnership with newcomers Albright College, Benedictine University, Upper Iowa University, Westminster College, and Wilkes University. The primary goal of the campaign is to raise awareness about Mesa’s higher education opportunities. It also provides a web-based, one-stop-shop to learn about and interact with the colleges and universities.
“We want everybody to know that Mesa is Arizona’s newest college town, with more than a dozen colleges and universities to choose from with programs in business, science, technology and education to name just a few,” Mayor Scott Smith said. “We are excited to partner with these institutions and Mesa Counts on College to show prospective students nationwide what we have to offer.”
The cooperative marketing program includes a four-month advertising schedule (digital and print), a 20+ page website (MesaEducatesU.org), a 20+ page App, and a Facebook page. The program is anchored by Discover U Weekend scheduled for March 8-9, 2013. Discover U Weekend is a special event designed to give prospective students a chance to meet with school representatives at signature events in Mesa. On March 8, the institutions will participate in Mesa’s 2nd Friday Night Out monthly block party and on March 9, Hohokam Stadium and the world famous Chicago Cubs will provide the backdrop for a unique event showcasing Mesa’s higher education assets. Interested participants can sign up to win tickets to the Cubs spring training game on the Mesa Educates U webpage.
“This cooperative marketing campaign is just one more step along the path to position Mesa as a leader in higher education,” Mesa City Manager Chris Brady said. “Each of these institutions brings unique program offerings to the table and this initiative makes it easy for prospective students to discover all that Mesa has to offer.”
The Mesa Educates U campaign also provides information about things to do in Mesa, how to choose the right school, and even how to pay for college – including details on the Mesa Educates U scholarship program. A partnership with four of the new liberal arts colleges expanding into Mesa, the Mesa Educates U scholarship offers annual scholarships to Mesa residents who have demonstrated strong academic performance and financial need.
