Christopher O’Riley, a graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, has redefined classical music through the use of media, contemporary music, and innovative programming. While hosting From the Top’s radio and television programs, he has also appeared with top orchestras and performed at festivals around the world. He has played with Pablo Ziegler and collaborated with famed choreographer Martha Clarke to create a completely inventive work that combined the staged stories of Anton Chekhov with the piano works of Alexander Scriabin. O’Riley also likes to keep up with contemporary music and his latest disc, Out of My Hands released in 2009, explores and reinvents the music of Nirvana, REM, Radiohead, Pink Floyd, The Smiths, and others through the piano.
Aside from these amazing personal accomplishments, Christopher O’Riley is a part of From the Top, which began as a radio experiment in 2000 and exploded into a popular radio and television program. Each one-hour broadcast includes five high-caliber performances along with interviews, sketches, and games. The program has also begun to incorporate prominent guest artists such as Yo Yo Ma, Hilary Hahn, Bela Fleck, Sir James Galway, Michael Feinstein, and more. From the Top encourages young performers to share their music with fresh audiences and to give back to their communities. Now after its12th year on radio, From the Top alumni are beginning to emerge in their own solo careers and in top performing orchestras. Mesa Arts Center is excited to share this live classical program with new audiences in Mesa, Arizona.
