On April 5-6th, 2013, Downtown Mesa will host the 2nd Annual Great Arizona Bicycle Festival. Paired with El Tour de Mesa, this is a celebration of all things bike! The Great Arizona Bicycle Festival is a two-day event designed to provide something for everyone.

Friday, April 5th from 6-10pm it’s all about Leather vs. Lycra! Come experience a Twilight Criterium through Downtown Mesa. This fast-paced cycling race for professional bikers will take bikers on a high-speed figure eight through the heart of Mesa. Some bikers will crash and burn, others will win hefty cash prizes. One thing is for sure; the crowd will get a great show! The Main Stage will feature Arizona’s own Black Bottom Lighters and One Drop from San Diego along with a couple supporting local acts. The event is paired with Motorcycles on Main, Main Street’s veteran event where motorcycles can park Sturgis Style and walk the streetsto shop vendors, listen to some rock-n-roll and check out some chrome. It’s a party in the streets as Downtown Mesa hosts one of its biggest Friday nights ever!

Join us Saturday, April 6th from 10am-5pm for the family-friendly festival portion of the weekend. As the riders from El Tour de Mesa cross the finish line, they will be greeted by a huge festival of bikes. From beer gardens to vendors and bike swaps to bike competitions, riders and neighbors will have a full day of activities geared towards the bicycle loving crowd. The Main Stage performers include Weird is the New Cool, Andres from The Veragroove, Jared and the Mill, The Collective and Lane Change. Bring the whole family as there will be an enormous kids zone filled with inflatables of all sorts and a bike rodeo for the kids to teach them bike safety.

The Great Arizona Bicycle Festival will also host its first Custom Bicycle Competition presented by LaDep Custom Cruisers. Bike Builders, riders and connoisseurs will be able to enter their prized rides  for a chance to the Grand Prize of $500 or several $150 prizes. Categories include Best in Show, Best Arizona Themed Bike, Best Ladies Bike, Best Custom Cruiser and Best Lowrider. The competition is vote based and will take place during both Friday and Saturday events.
