Mesa, AZ - Before material collected from Mesa’s blue barrel can be sent to a recycling plant to be made into new products, it must first be sorted locally at a materials recovery facility (MRF). Mesa residents are invited to attend a special one-hour workshop on Saturday, April 20th to learn about how the material is separated at the MRF which uses a combination of high tech equipment and hand sorting. In addition, guests will also learn about what goes into operating a landfill of today and Mesa's recycling program. City of Mesa and Salt River Landfill staff will be available to answer questions throughout the workshop.
The event will take place from 10 a.m.-11 a.m. at the Salt River Landfill which is located at Gilbert Rd. and the Beeline Highway. Due to limited seating, advance registration is required. With Earth Day being celebrated on April 22nd, this is a great family event where everyone can learn about caring for the planet. For more information or to register for the workshop and tour, please visit mesarecycles.org.
