Mesa, AZ – The Maricopa County Environmental Services Department (MCESD) wants to help residents by giving tips to prevent mosquitoes, West Nile virus, and roof rats. A free workshop will be held on Tuesday, April 30 from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Red Mountain Library, 635 N. Power Road. Learn what you can do to keep yourself safe. The presentation is free and open to the public.
As temperatures start to heat up, so does the mosquito population. MCESD has reported an increased number of mosquitos, including one sample that tested positive for West Nile virus. Increased mosquito activity will occur as night time temperatures get warmer.
MCESD has also reported roof rat activity in several communities across the valley including parts of Mesa. Roof rats are known to be very destructive, gnawing through wiring in the home and destroying citrus, but have not been found to carry diseases.
