Mesa announces interim directors for Water Resources and Transportation

Mesa, AZ – Mesa City Manager Chris Brady announced today that Dan Cleavenger, Transportation Director, has been appointed the interim director for Water Resources.

Cleavenger has been with the City more than 25 years.  He has served in various positions in the Transportation Department including department director for five years.  He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Wisconsin, a Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering and a Master of Public Administration degree from Arizona State University.  Cleavenger is a Registered Civil Engineer in the state of Arizona.

“Dan has been an outstanding Transportation Director for the City of Mesa and his leadership skills and institutional knowledge will serve him well in this new role,” City Manager Chris Brady said.  “I am confident this will be a smooth transition for Water Resources while we search for a permanent director.”

As a result of this appointment, Lenny Hulme has been named the interim director for the Transportation Department.  Hulme has been with the City for 24 years and is currently Deputy Director overseeing the Transportation Field Operations division.  He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Management from Arizona State University.  He is a member of the International Municipal Signal Association and other professional organizations.

“Lenny’s been involved in various roles in planning, developing and operating the City’s transportation system which makes him an excellent choice to be the interim director for our Transportation Department,” Brady said.

Both appointments take effect July 4.
