The City of Mesa and the Mesa Chamber of Commerce have partnered with Google to help Mesa businesses increase their online presence through the “Get Your Business Online” campaign. The program offers local business owners a Google+ business website, unique domain name and other benefits all free of charge for one year.

“Anytime you can partner with a global icon like Google and have all the benefits end up with your local businesses, it’s really a no-brainer,” Mayor Scott Smith said. “Businesses have to be where their customers are and, in 2013, that’s online.”

Businesses that sign up for the program will receive a website with fully customizable pages, access to educational resources, a custom domain name, free web hosting for one year and business listings on Google search, Google+, Google Maps and phones and tablets. There is no charge for any of the features and owners will have the option to continue using the website after the first year for less than $10 a month.

“The misconception that getting online is complex, costly and time-consuming has prevented many small businesses from taking the first step,” Google’s Director of Small Business Engagement Scott Levitan said. “This program makes it fast, easy and free for businesses to get online.”

Although 97 percent of Internet users are now looking online to find local products and services, 58 percent of American businesses still do not have a website. Through increased participation in the Get Your Business Online program, the City of Mesa and Mesa Chamber of Commerce hope to close that gap.

“There is really no downside to this program and I hope all of our local businesses will take advantage,” Mesa Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Sally Harrison said. “You get to work directly with one of the most respected companies in the world, you get to put your business out there on the Internet, and you get it all for free. What more could you want?”

“This program can be a catalyst for owners to develop and increase their business,” Councilmember Scott Somers, chair of the Council Economic Development committee, said. “The value of what Google is offering with this campaign is really amazing and I encourage all of our local owners to take full advantage.”
