Mesa Celebrates National Parks and Recreation Month

Mesa, AZ – July is National Parks and Recreation month and Mesa Parks and Recreation, “Your Place to Play” would like you to get involved. 
“Even though the temperatures are warmer here than other parts of the country, we would still like our residents to take advantage of some of the great programs,” Mesa Parks and Recreation Director, Marc Heirshberg said. “All nine of our pools including the FlowRider are open and residents can also use our indoor recreation facilities; that include a rock climb wall, basketball courts and other family-friendly activities.”

Some July activities include:

Webster Recreation Center, 202 N. Sycamore and Jefferson Recreation Center, 120 S. Jefferson Ave. are starting their July Session of the Xtreme Summer Program. The program runs Monday through Friday from 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The activities include games, crafts, PE skills, movies, themed parties and swimming. Cost is $50 for residents per week and $60 for non- residents per week. For more information, contact Webster Recreation Center at (480) 644-4925 or Jefferson Recreation Center at (480) 644-4578.

Red Mountain Center, 7550 E. Adobe St., is open for rock wall climbing, fitness, basketball, volleyball, youth gaming and aerobic classes. The center is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information on pricing and class schedules, visit or call (480) 644-4800.

Dobson Ranch Golf Course, 2155 S. Dobson Road, is having an all you can play golf for a $39 rate. Come early in the morning and play the first 18 holes, take a break for lunch (lunch not included in the $39 fee), then tee back up for another 18 holes. The other option is golfers can play the first nine holes in the morning, and then enjoy the Back Nine special with half off breakfast by showing your receipt.

Slightly Stoopid and Atmosphere will perform on Thursday, July 11 at the Mesa Amphitheatre, 263 N. Center St. The performance begins at 5:30 p.m.

Adaptive Recreation Game and Karaoke Night for individuals with intellectual disabilities 16 and older. Cost is $5. Friday, July 12, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Chandler Senior Center.  Registration online through: or call (480) 644-2352. 

Dive-In Movie “Wreck it Ralph” on Saturday, July 27, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Shepherd Aquatic Complex, 1407 N. Alta Mesa Drive. Regular admission, $4 for adults 18 and over, $2 for children 17 and under. Punch passes will also be honored.
