Mesa, AZ – Electric vehicle (EV) owners visiting downtown Mesa are reminded that they can take advantage of convenient charging stations in the heart of the city. Each of the four locations offers two or more charging units.
The Level 2 (240 volt AC input) pedestal charging stations are part of the Blink network. Locations in downtown Mesa include the Main Public Library (64 E 1st Street), the Mesa Arts Center (1st Ave. between Center & Sirrine), the Mesa Convention Center (263 N. Center St.) and in the city parking lot located at 125 W. Pepper Place.
Each station can recharge a fully depleted electric vehicle battery in four to six hours. Charging costs range between $1-2 per hour based on the user’s Blink membership level.
“The EV charging stations make it quick and easy to recharge and will hopefully help persuade people shopping for a new vehicle to consider going electric,” said Frank McRae, Director of the City of Mesa Energy Resources Department. “We encourage going electric as a means of diminishing the country’s dependence on foreign oil and reducing carbon emissions, as well as a way to support a cleaner environment.” Twenty percent of the power supplied to the charging stations is from renewable, hydroelectric generating plants.
The charging stations were installed in the fall of 2012 by ECOtality, Inc. as part of the national EV Project, a $230 million public-private partnership to install EV charging infrastructure in test markets throughout the country. For more information about the charging stations, please contact the Energy Resources Department at 480-644-4444.
