VISTA volunteers needed to help veterans and strengthen neighborhoods
Mesa, AZ – If you would like to volunteer to improve the lives of veterans or strengthen Mesa’s neighborhoods while also earning a modest stipend, you’re invited to look into two VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) positions at the City of Mesa in partnership with Mesa United Way.
Both VISTA positions are in the Diversity and Neighborhood Outreach Office. One is aimed at strengthening neighborhoods, while the other will help to connect services and programs to veterans.  Additionally, both positions will work closely with the Mayor’s office and City Council offices.

Veterans Outreach Coordinator: This position will focus on making Mesa a community that is more Veteran-friendly and assist with improving connections with Veterans’ services for Mesa residents.

Volunteer Programs Coordinator: This position will expand volunteer programs aimed at improving under resourced neighborhoods, including designing and executing volunteer recruitment campaigns, organizing and training volunteers, and conducting service events.
VISTA positions require a one-year commitment and members are not allowed to have other employment.  The positions will begin in mid-November and hiring will be completed by Oct. 1.  There is no salary paid to VISTA members; however, they do receive a living allowance of $946 a month plus $150 in housing assistance paid directly to their landlord or mortgage holder.
Members who complete the year of service have the option of selecting a $5,500 education award or a $1,500 end-of-service stipend.  VISTA is a federal anti-poverty program.
