Mesa, AZ – A grand opening, ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house have been held for the first new police station in Mesa in more than 10 years.  The Fiesta District Police Station, 1010. W. Grove, will relieve overcrowding at the Dobson Police Station and enhance the revitalization of the Fiesta District.
“Public safety is a top priority for our City Council and our residents, who voted overwhelmingly to build the Fiesta Police Station along with many other public safety and transportation projects,” Mayor Scott Smith said. “I’m proud that our residents chose to invest in our community and the opening of this station is another indication that the Fiesta District is moving forward.”
The approximately $10.1 million construction project was funded from general obligation bonds for public safety approved by Mesa voters in November, 2008.
“The opening of this magnificent new police station is another tremendous step in the revitalization of the Fiesta District. This state-of-the-art facility will certainly help us meet our goals of increasing public safety and making Mesa as safe as possible for our residents,“ District 3 Councilmember Dennis Kavanaugh said.
The 34,000 square foot building includes the Watch Command, a holding facility for adults and juveniles, a locker room/fitness area, a community room, a patrol equipment room and a fueling station.  The parking area includes canopies to support and maximize solar array electrical generation.  It is projected that solar will power more than 60 percent of the building’s energy needs.  It will be the third LEED (U.S. Green Building Council Leadership in Environmental and Energy Design registration) certified City building in Mesa.
“As a result of our relationship with the community and strong City leadership, we have been provided with a world class policing facility in which we can provide them with world class policing,” Mesa Police Chief Frank Milstead said.
The Fiesta District Police Station will house approximately 125 staff.  The boundaries served by the new police station will be from Broadway to just south of Guadalupe Road and from Price Road east to Horne.
