Get a close look at aircraft, unique cars, military vehicles and more on Saturday, March 23 when the City of Mesa’s Falcon Field Airport hosts its fifth annual Open House.
The event will be held 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the airport and Falcon Park, 4636 East Fighter Aces Drive (located north of McKellips Road between Greenfield Road and Higley Road). Admission and parking are free. Canned food donations will be accepted for the United Food Bank.
This event showcases the vital aviation and economic role of Falcon Field and its many businesses to the Mesa community.
“Falcon Field is a prime example of an airport that continues to thrive and adapt to the many changes we are seeing in the aviation industry today,” Vice Mayor Finter said. “The airport has a promising future as a premier general aviation airport not only for Mesa, but for the region.”
“I encourage residents to take advantage of this opportunity to bring their families out and experience all that Falcon Field has to offer. From the Apache helicopter to vintage planes, Falcon Field is a unique and special place in Mesa,” District 5 Councilwoman Dina Higgins said. “The event is also a special opportunity to meet and talk with World War II veterans. You can experience history through the stories of those who were actually there.”
Visitors can get a close-up look at a variety of aircraft at the Open House, including Boeing’s Apache helicopter and unmanned aerial vehicles, vintage warbirds, experimental aircraft and general aviation planes. The Commemorative Air Force will also provide an exhibit to illustrate Falcon Field’s origin as a training base for British Royal Air Force (RAF) and U.S. Army Air Corps pilots during World War II.
“Falcon Field is an important asset for the City of Mesa, the region and the state of Arizona,” Airport Director Corinne Nystrom said. “We encourage everyone to come out and learn more about the facilities and opportunities here. We have something to offer whether you’re already a pilot, you dream of learning to fly, you’re seeking a career in aviation, you’re an entrepreneur looking for a business location, or you just love airplanes!”
Representatives from area aviation education programs and businesses will be available at the Open House to discuss career opportunities and training. “At Falcon Field we are passionate about helping the next generation launch careers in aviation,” Nystrom said. ”We hope the Open House will spark a new interest or help young people build on their dreams.”
Other event highlights include a classic car show, military vehicle display and model railroad exhibit. Freddy the Falcon will join the festivities, and food vendors and nostalgic music will add to the fun! Vice Mayor Alex Finter will lead the event’s welcome ceremony at 11 a.m.
