The next Building Strong Neighborhoods Initiative in the City of Mesa will be held in Council District 6. Four neighborhoods located east of Signal Butte and south of Pueblo Avenue will be the focus of the initiative. The neighborhoods are Desert Village, Eastgate, Arizona Renaissance and Silverwood. The program will kick off with an orientation meeting on Thursday, Jan. 9 at 6:30 p.m. at Brinton Elementary School, 11455 E Sunland. Councilmember Scott Somers, who represents District 6, is scheduled to give an introduction to neighbors at the meeting.

“It is always great to go out into the neighborhoods and meet with the people who take great pride in where they live,” Councilmember Scott Somers said. “It’s important for our residents to know that the City of Mesa wants their input and is happy to provide them with any information they need. Building Strong Neighborhoods really helps to build those relationships.”

At the meeting residents will hear about upcoming planned projects as well as Clean Sweep dumpster locations and dates. Action teams will be formed so that residents may work together to address concerns they may have and plan community activities. Residents attending the orientation meeting will have the opportunity to meet staff from various City departments such as Police, Transportation, Parks and Recreation, and Animal Control. There will also be representatives from various non-profit agencies and education venues for residents to visit in an expo type setting before and after the meeting.
“Our program will help residents by providing information on available resources, providing training on how to create positive solutions to existing challenges, and connecting neighbors to neighbors to help build a strong network,” said Susan Frabotta, City of Mesa Neighborhood Outreach Coordinator.

The City of Mesa Building Strong Neighborhoods Initiative was introduced in the fall of 2006 to provide education and resources to one selected neighborhood in each Council district once per year.
