Double Play at the Park features lots of fun, free events

Mesa, AZ – It is a once-in-a-lifetime event as Double Play at the Park, Saturday, Jan. 25 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., celebrates the grand opening of rebuilt Riverview Park and an open house for Cubs Park, 2100 W. Rio Salado Parkway. 
 
Double Play at the Park will include numerous fun activities for the family, most of which are free.  Among the activities:
 
Trolley or walking tours around Riverview Park and an inside look at Cubs Park and the Major and Minor League practice fields 
 
Free fishing at the reconfigured and larger Riverview Park lake hosted by Arizona Game & Fish
 
Zip line and tethered hot air balloon rides ($5 each)
 
Sports card and memorabilia show featuring former Cubs All-Star Bill Madlock and Arizona Cardinals and former Notre Dame wide receiver Michael Floyd (fee for autographs). The show includes more than 40 tables of sports cards and memorabilia.
 
Tailgating from noon to 6 p.m.  It is your chance to get the best parking available while enjoying the sights and sounds of the celebration. Admission is $10 per vehicle and $20 for RVs (cash only) with all proceeds benefitting the Mesa HoHoKams, a volunteer organization which raises funds for local youth sports organizations.
 
Family fun and games, including a Kids Zone
 
Extra Innings Baseball Experience where kids can take part in a whiffle ball game, pop fly contest and speed pitch, all on a miniature baseball field. In addition, former Major League players will be on hand, leading the activities.
 
Beer Garden featuring live music from Top Cats

Food truck vendors will be selling a variety of concessions
 
Live music, featuring Rock Lobster and Georgia Chrome on the main stage
 
Entertainment on the Community Stage including Mesa Community College music ensemble, a karate demonstration, dance groups and a hula dance
 
Play on the brand new park equipment at Riverview Park, including an expanded playground with 300 feet of rock climbing, the world’s largest rope climbing tower at 50 feet, splash pad and interactive play equipment
 
A 5:45 p.m. dedication ceremony
 
All parking, except the tailgate area, is free.  General event parking is located off of Dobson Road.  Attendees will go west off of Dobson Road and once inside Riverview Park will be directed to an open lot.   Parking closest to the event will be filled first.  ADA parking is located off of Rio Salado Parkway.  Tailgate parking is also located off of Rio Salado Parkway. 
 
The Chicago Cubs box office will be open at Cubs Park during Double Play at the Park from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. allowing fans to purchase tickets to upcoming spring training games.  For more information about purchasing tickets, visit http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com.
