Mesa, AZ – Through the City’s Love Your Block initiative Mesa residents are invited to participate in the Great American Clean Up on Saturday, May 24 by signing up to report graffiti in their neighborhoods and/or distribute educational information on how to report graffiti.
Volunteers can register for an area of their choice, complete 30-60 minutes of work early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid the hot temperatures and help make a difference in the appearance of their neighborhoods. Reported graffiti will be abated in approximately 24-48 business hours. Volunteers will need to use their own smart phones or tablets with cameras to participate in this project. Basic training for volunteers will be provided in advance.
Interested volunteers should contact Laura Rodriguez, AmeriCorps Vista Volunteer Coordinator at firstname.lastname@example.org or 480-644-6536 for more information. The deadline to sign up is Tuesday, May 20. Don’t have a smart phone or tablet? Call the graffiti hotline at 480-644-3083 or submit report online at http://www.mesaaz.gov/transportation.
Each spring, Keep America Beautiful launches the Great American Cleanup, which is the nation’s largest community improvement program that harnesses the power of millions of volunteers to build and sustain vibrant communities. In 2013, more than 4.5 million Great American Cleanup volunteers worked a collective 8.1 million hours to return nearly $175 million in measurable benefits in 21,000 communities across the country.
Love Your Block is a tested, high-impact service strategy through Cities of Service that engages community members in revitalizing their neighborhoods one block at a time. Volunteers assist with a variety of activities including: graffiti reporting, debris clean up, exterior home painting and painting of common neighborhood areas.
