Mesa, AZ – Registration is now underway for the 3rd annual Mesa Sprint Triathlon held on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013 at Skyline Aquatic Center, 845 S. Crismon Rd.
“We are excited to bring a new component to our triathlon this year,” Mesa Sprint Triathlon Race Director, Becky Robson said. “In addition to the race teams and kid’s splash and dash, we’re also adding a 5K race to the course. We want people of all ages and skill set to come out and enjoy this race because it directly benefits Mesa youth programs.”
Sponsored by the Foundation for Mesa Parks and Recreation, this non-profit organization raises support through fundraisers that benefit youth who cannot afford recreational programs, swim classes and camps offered by Mesa Parks and Recreation.
“Without the Foundation for Mesa Parks and Recreation and fundraisers like Mesa Sprint Triathlon, we wouldn’t be able to assist families who need that extra support,” Mesa Parks, Recreation and Commercial Facilities Director, Marc Heirshberg said. “We feel that every child should have the opportunity to play and learn with us.”
This year the Mesa Sprint Triathlon hopes to reach a goal of 400 participants.
“Our main goal is to raise enough support to help these kids who can’t enjoy summer camps, swim classes, and other recreational classes like most kids do every year,” Robson said.
Cost of the triathlon is $60 for individuals and $65 for relay teams. Groups of three or more will each receive a $5 discount. Kids Splash & Dash cost $15 and running the 5K cost $20. Prices increase after September 10. All participants will receive a dry-fit race shirt and top three finishers in each age group and category will receive medals.
