The next Building Strong Neighborhoods Initiative in the City of Mesa will be held in Council District 3. The Ranch West neighborhood will be the focus of the initiative. This neighborhood is located from Gilbert Road to 24th St. and from Baseline Road to the U.S. 60. The program will kick off with an orientation meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 6:30 p.m. at Porter Elementary School, located at 1350 S. Lindsay Road in the cafeteria. Councilmember Dennis Kavanaugh, who represents District 3, is scheduled to speak to neighbors at the meeting.
“I think it is wonderful that we gather a neighborhood together and connect them with City workers so they can exchange ideas and information,” Councilmember Kavanaugh said. “When you keep people involved with their neighborhood and their City, they are going to take pride in the area and do whatever they can to make it a great place to live.”
At the meeting residents will hear about upcoming planned projects as well as Clean Sweep dumpster locations and dates. Action teams will be formed so that residents may work together to address concerns they may have and plan community activities. Residents attending the orientation meeting will have the opportunity to meet staff from various City departments such as Code Compliance, Police, Transportation and Animal Control. There will also be representatives from various non-profit agencies and education venues for residents to visit in an expo type setting before and after the meeting.   \

“I’m really excited to be working in a neighborhood with lots of diversity,” Cynthia Ezcurra-Garza of the Neighborhood Outreach Office said. “The neighborhood has the ability to become very active and I have no doubt that neighbors will be able to work together towards resolving any issues that arise.”
The City of Mesa Building Strong Neighborhoods Initiative was introduced in the fall of 2006 to provide education and resources to one selected neighborhood in each Council district once per year.
