Mesa, AZ – The grand opening and open house for THINKspot was held today at the Red Mountain Library, 635 N. Power Rd.
THINKspot is a collaborative workspace and makerspace.  The idea was brought to life through the iMesa process.  Located inside the Red Mountain Library, THINKspot offers residents, small business owners, educators and students the ability to work on their individual projects or collaboratively share their ideas with one another.
“The design of THINKspot was to stir the creativity process in people so they could improve, innovate or share their ideas with others through the technology we offer,” Mesa Library Director, Heather Wolf said.  “We built this makerspace so it is fluid.  Furniture pieces can be move around so you can engage with others in a group or collaborate on ideas or projects.”
THINKspot is 2,257 square feet and offers a green screen, Canon Rebel T5i digital camera, a MakerBot Replicator II 3D printer, zSpace- a virtual holographic computer, two iMac computers with photo and video editing software, a SMARTboard touch-screen monitor, and mediascape tables for collaborative groups.
“There is no place like this anywhere in Mesa,” Mesa Mayor Scott Smith said.  “Where else can you come and meet with your peers to see your ideas come to life?  This is what iMesa is all about. When we launched it in 2011, we wanted the community to tell us what they needed or desired and thus, THINKspot was created.”
THINKspot will be offering ongoing programs and workshops that are free to the community.  Some of them include Maker Monday, 3D Thursdays, and ASU’s Rapid Startup School entrepreneur courses through a partnership with ASU’s Entrepreneurship & Innovation Group. Those interested in photography and video can reserve The Studio, as well as collaborative groups can reserve rooms to meet in. THINKspot will be open Monday, Tuesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
